In wastewater treatment operations, the water level in the sewage tank needs to be measured. As a widely used level meter, the ultrasonic level meter enables non-contact level measurement. It features high accuracy, simple installation, easy maintenance, and low cost. In addition to wastewater treatment, it can measure the level in various containers, channels, reservoirs, rivers, lakes, and seas. It can also measure level differences and, when used with a Parshall flume, can measure flow rate. Therefore, ultrasonic level meters are being used more and more widely across many industries and fields.
So, how should the wastewater treatment industry select an ultrasonic level meter for measurement?
First, it is necessary to distinguish the properties of the medium being measured, which are generally divided into non-corrosive and corrosive types. Based on this, we can choose a standard ultrasonic probe or a PTFE anti-corrosion probe for the measurement.
Second, it is necessary to know the temperature and pressure of the medium. Of course, applications using ultrasonic level meters are generally open tanks or unpressurized storage tanks, because ultrasonic level meters are not suitable for measuring under pressurized conditions. Regarding the medium temperature, the normal condition is the standard temperature type, because if the temperature of the sewage tank is too high, water vapor will be generated, and the ultrasonic waves will be absorbed by the water vapor, preventing the signal from being reflected back, rendering the ultrasonic level meter unusable.
Finally, since sewage tanks are generally outdoors, it is necessary to choose an ultrasonic level meter with a higher protection rating for installation and use. If conditions permit, an instrument protection box can be installed so that the product can have a long service life.

The correct model selection of the ultrasonic level meter is important, but correct on-site installation directly affects the performance of the level meter. We need to pay attention to the following points:
1. Use threaded or flanged installation for the ultrasonic level meter to reduce the impact of wind on the instrument and prevent swaying.
2. The installation location should be as far away as possible from strong magnetic field sources.
3. Only use one ultrasonic level meter per sewage tank to avoid errors caused by mutual interference between multiple ultrasonic devices.
4. For conical containers with a flat top, install the level meter as close to the center of the top as possible.
5. The transmitting surface of the ultrasonic level meter probe should be parallel to the liquid surface being measured, so that the sound wave can be emitted perpendicularly to the measured surface, ensuring the ultrasonic wave can be reflected back.
