How to Resolve Signal Loss in an Ultrasonic Level Meter Installed in a Tank When Liquid Is Present?
Dayu ElectronicsUltrasonic Level Meter installed in a tank or pool experiences signal loss when liquid is present, but measures normally when there is no liquid. How should this situation be resolved?
1. First, determine whether the instrument's measurement range matches the height of the tank or pool. For example, if the pool depth is 6 meters, check whether the instrument's measurement range is 6 meters or greater. If this is confirmed to be fine, then check whether the foam coverage area within the ultrasonic irradiation range exceeds 40% when signal loss occurs. If it exceeds 40%, signal loss may occur. If foam is the cause, handle it according to Section 7.3.6 'Significant Foam on Water Surface'.
2. Check whether the ultrasonic irradiation range happens to be at the feed inlet position, where the water surface is highly agitated with white waves. When the water surface calms down, measurement returns to normal. If this is the case, install the meter away from the feed inlet. If it is impossible to avoid the feed inlet, use a stilling well for measurement. The length of the stilling well should match the entire height of the tank.
3. When liquid is present, there may be temperature and substantial steam generation. If steam is the cause, handle it according to Section 7.3.8 'High Steam Above Water Surface'.
