How to Properly Install a Doppler Flow Meter in Different River Environments
Doppler flow meter is a portable measuring instrument specially designed for flow velocity and flow rate measurement in industries such as hydrology and water conservancy, river velocity measurement, farmland irrigation, municipal drainage, industrial wastewater, water administration and water resources, ditches and open channels, water conservancy projects, building drainage, and sewage flow measurement. It employs a special ultra-low-power circuit design and full digital signal processing technology, making the instrument more stable and reliable with high measurement accuracy. It can be widely used in hydrology, water conservancy, agricultural irrigation, water supply and drainage, and other occasions where frequent mobile measurement is required and no power source is available on site. It is one of the most commonly used instruments for insertion-type water velocity and flow rate measurement.

The spillway of a reservoir, the ship navigation channel below a dam, the flood discharge channel of a hydropower station, and rivers—the flow velocity from both banks to the middle is different. Measuring the flow rate becomes even more complex because the velocity varies at different positions, and so does the flow rate. In such cases, it is generally necessary to collect flow velocity data at multiple points, requiring at least 3 sensors.
In the river channel, if there is no sediment, we install the sensor directly at the bottom of the pipe. If there is sediment, we install the sensor beside the sediment. To prevent water flow impact from shifting the sensor installation position, the sensor has a base at the bottom, specifically used to secure it to the pipe. At the same time, the sensor should be installed in the river channel close to the manhole, making it easy to install, maintain, and replace.
