How Is the Measuring Range of a Radar Level Meter Determined?
Radar level meter is a general-purpose radar level meter that operates on the time-of-flight principle. Radar waves travel at the speed of light, and the transit time is converted by electronic components into a level signal. The radar level meter measures using microwave pulses transmitted through an antenna, so the measuring range must be configured before use. So how is the measuring range of a radar level meter determined?
1. When there are ripples on the liquid surface in the tank (buffer tank): For Class B liquids with a dielectric constant of 1.9 to 4, the maximum measuring range should be set to 5 m; for Class C liquids with a dielectric constant of 4 to 10 (concentrated acids, organic solvents, vinegar, etc.), the maximum measuring range should be set to 10 m; for Class D liquids with a dielectric constant greater than 10 (aqueous solutions, diluted acids and alkalis, etc.), the maximum measuring range can be set to 15 m.
2. When the liquid surface in the tank is calm: For Class A liquids with a dielectric constant below 1.4, the measuring range should be set to 5 m; for Class B liquids with a dielectric constant of 1.9 to 4 (gasoline, petroleum, etc.), the maximum measuring range should be set to 10 m; for Class C liquids with a dielectric constant of 4 to 10 (concentrated acids, organic solvents, vinegar, etc.), the maximum measuring range should be set to 15 m; for Class D liquids with a dielectric constant greater than 10 (aqueous solutions, diluted acids and alkalis, etc.), the maximum measuring range can be set to 20 m.
3. Install the probe as far as possible from the inlet and discharge ports to minimize feed disturbance and wear. It is recommended that the probe be installed between 1/6 and 1/4 of the tank diameter. For concrete silos, the probe should be approximately 1 m from the tank wall, with a minimum distance of 0.5 m. For metal and plastic silos, the probe can be installed very close to the wall, but make sure the probe does not touch the wall. The probe length determines the measuring range. When ordering, the probe length should be such that the probe tip is at least 150 mm above the bottom of the silo. The specific blanking distance of the probe should also be taken into account. In general, a longer probe is better than a shorter one; it can be cut shorter if needed. Temperature conditions must comply with recommendations, and it is advisable to install a protective cover to prevent direct sunlight and rain.
