In fact, for ultrasonic level meters or other radar-type instruments, the most important thing is installation. If installation is problematic, the device will be nearly unusable later. If installed correctly, the maintenance required is actually very minimal.
During installation, the key is to check for any interfering points within the ultrasonic irradiation range, such as being too close to the container wall, causing sound waves to hit the tank wall, or whether there are protruding platforms or other installed equipment within the echo path that could cause measurement interference. If the interference is fixed, a good ultrasonic level meter has echo suppression functionality, which can record the waveform of the interference point.
When there is liquid level, the waveform is compared with the previous waveform to identify the level. The most difficult case is dynamic interference points, such as a thick and fine foam layer on the liquid surface, which causes the waveform to gradually weaken without a distinct echo. In such cases, placing a wooden board or similar object on the liquid surface can significantly improve the measurement.
Simple maintenance includes:
a. Visual inspection: check for loose fasteners, missing or damaged parts, and ensure the entire unit is clean and free from corrosion.
b. Check with the process personnel whether the display is normal.
c. Check whether the instrument power supply circuit is normal.
d. Check whether the instrument insulation and heat tracing are normal.
