[Dayu Electronics] Ultrasonic Doppler Current Meter Measurement Principle
Ultrasonic Doppler current meter is a flow-measuring instrument based on the acoustic Doppler effect principle, using ultrasonic transducers to detect flow velocity with ultrasonic waves. The measurement point is located in front of the probe, which does not disturb the flow field, offering high measurement accuracy, wide range, and capable of measuring both weak and strong currents. It features high resolution and fast response. Additionally, it integrates pressure and temperature sensors to measure water depth and temperature, and uploads flow velocity, water level, and temperature via RS485.

Ultrasonic Doppler current meter measurement is based on the Doppler effect. The probe transmits a beam of ultrasonic waves obliquely upward. As the ultrasonic waves propagate through the fluid, they encounter impurities such as bubbles or particles (which move at the same velocity as the water). When the ultrasonic waves hit these impurities, the reflected waves experience a Doppler frequency shift Δf, which is proportional to the flow velocity. By measuring this Doppler frequency shift Δf, the flow velocity can be determined.
