Doppler Flowmeter for Discharge Channel Measurement at Shanxi Fenhe Second Reservoir Hydropower Station
Shanxi Fenhe Second Reservoir Hydropower Station has a discharge channel approximately 6 meters deep and 10 meters wide, used for routine release of stored reservoir water.

In response to the national requirement for hydropower stations to discharge ecological water volumes, Fenhe Second Reservoir Hydropower Station also needs to record the amount of water released downstream each day.
To ensure measurement accuracy, a "one-to-two" configuration is adopted: 1 ultrasonic Doppler flowmeter main unit + 2 ultrasonic Doppler current meter sensors. One Doppler current meter sensor is installed on each side of the channel (left and right banks), allowing accurate measurement of flow velocity on both sides. Given the relatively high flow velocity during flood season, DN80 steel pipes are used as mounting brackets to protect the sensors under high-flow conditions.

After installation, Mr. Zhang, the site reservoir manager, commented: "Using this ultrasonic Doppler flowmeter for measurement makes installation relatively simple. Even during the dry season when flow velocity is only a few centimeters per second, it can still measure accurately. It works very well."
