Application of Ultrasonic Gas Flow Transducers in Coal Mines

The above is the ultrasonic gas flow meter transducer (DYA-144-03D), a custom product for a customer, used in ultrasonic gas flow meter transducers in the coal mining industry, with a measuring range up to 0.1~30 m/s. As is well known, ultrasonic gas flow meters are used in coal mines for gas flow measurement, enabling gas recovery and reuse; fully utilizing gas resources and turning waste into treasure.
Coal mine gas, also known as coalbed methane, is a hydrocarbon gas stored in coal seams. Like natural gas, its main component is methane. Gas poses a major threat to coal mine safety, but when utilized, it is a high-quality clean energy source. Proper gas drainage and utilization can turn harm into benefit and waste into treasure, which is of great significance. With the increasing national emphasis on comprehensive utilization of coal mine gas, coal mining enterprises urgently need to know whether the actual gas drainage flow meets design and selection requirements. However, the complex on-site conditions in coal mine gas drainage, limited available testing equipment, and lack of effective detection methods have long troubled mine managers and inspectors. Ultrasonic gas flow meters offer advantages such as no flow interruption, no flow obstruction, no pressure loss, and non-contact measurement, effectively solving the dilemma of lacking online gas flow detection methods.
Ultrasonic flow meters are instruments that measure flow by detecting the effect of fluid flow on an ultrasonic beam (or ultrasonic pulses). Based on the principle of signal detection, they can be roughly classified into transit time difference methods (including time difference, phase difference, and frequency difference methods), beam deflection method, Doppler method, correlation method, spatial filtering method, and noise method. Currently, the commonly used measurement methods for ultrasonic flow meters are the transit time difference method and the Doppler method. Transit time difference ultrasonic flow meters are suitable for measuring clean liquids and gases, while Doppler ultrasonic flow meters are only suitable for measuring liquids and gases containing a certain amount of solid particles or bubbles that can reflect sound waves.
In actual underground coal mine conditions, the gas in drainage pipelines is accompanied by dust and bubbles. Therefore, using ultrasonic gas flow meter transducers for measurement plays a decisive role, allowing gas to be recovered and reused, fully utilizing resources, and making “turning waste into treasure” no longer an empty phrase.
