Dayu Electronics Wood Panel Bulge Detection Sensor Precisely Assesses Wood Quality
During the production of wood panels and composite panels, surface defects such as bulges and blisters directly affect product quality and structural strength. Customers involved in furniture quality inspection and panel production often ask directly: what is the maximum thickness of wood panel that the Dayu Electronics sensor specially designed for bulge detection can measure?
Well, today we will give you a straight answer, no fluff.
Currently, our wood panel bulge detection sensor is clearly categorized by applicable range: for a single solid wood panel, thicknesses from 3 to 60 mm can be measured; for composite panels (such as multi-layer plywood or veneered boards with an adhesive layer in between), the safe range is 3 to 20 mm.

Why such a clear distinction? The principle is not complicated. The sensor works by sending sound waves into the wood panel and "listening for echoes" — if there is delamination or blistering inside the panel, the sound waves will bounce back with a different signal when they hit the cavity. Solid wood has relatively uniform fiber density, allowing sound waves to travel farther, so echoes can be captured even at a depth of 6 cm. However, composite panels contain adhesive and layers of different materials, which significantly attenuate sound waves; beyond that depth, the signal is completely scattered. If the panel is too thick, the probe cannot distinguish between a bulge and the panel bottom, so the upper limit is currently set at 20 mm to ensure accurate data.

Note that there are boundaries at both ends: panels thinner than 3 mm cannot be measured because the sound wave passes through before it can react; for composite panels exceeding 20 mm, even if the green light stays on, internal bulges may go undetected.

If your panels are special, such as those with a thick putty coating or fire-resistant layer, or if you are unsure whether they fall between solid wood and composite, the simplest solution is to cut a palm-sized scrap piece and send it to us. We will test it with the same probe and give you a definitive answer on the spot, saving you from rework after installation.
