Ultrasonic Externally Mounted Level Switch Applied to Intelligent Retrofit Project of Cylindrical Capsule-Type Oil Conservators in Power Systems
In the operation of power systems, the safe and stable operation of main transformers is of paramount importance. As a critical component of transformers, the oil conservator (oil pillow) requires precise oil level monitoring, which directly affects the transformer's service life and grid safety. Recently, Dayu Electronics successfully applied its independently developed ultrasonic externally mounted level sensor to the intelligent retrofit project of 6 imported cylindrical capsule-type oil conservators at an overseas substation, solving long-standing industry pain points that have troubled maintenance personnel with outstanding technical expertise.

Confronting Traditional Pain Points: The "Bottleneck" of Aging Mechanical Structures
The overseas substation is equipped with a total of 6 oil-immersed main transformers, all using imported horizontal cylindrical capsule-type oil conservators. During long-term operation, traditional mechanical oil level gauges have gradually exposed numerous drawbacks:
? Mechanical Jamming and Thermal Drift Errors: Traditional mechanical linkage structures are prone to jamming. Under extreme weather conditions such as rainy seasons and high temperatures, thermal drift errors become significant, frequently causing "false oil level" readings and inaccurate measurements.
? High Maintenance Costs: Overseas sites commonly suffer from manpower shortages. Reliance on manual elevated inspections is not only labor-intensive and costly but also often delays the detection of anomalies.
? Lack of Intelligent Alarming: The original monitoring method could not provide automatic alarms for oil leakage or excessively low/high oil levels, posing significant hidden risks to the long-term safe operation of main transformers.

Innovative Solution: Dayu Electronics' Non-Contact Measurement Technology
To address the above pain points, Dayu Electronics' technical team customized an overall retrofit solution for this station: "Ultrasonic Oil Level Sensor + RS485 Modbus-RTU Bus Acquisition."

The core highlight of this retrofit lies in "Zero Intrusion, No Outage":
1. No Seal Breach, No Oil Contact: Abandoning traditional open-hole contact measurement, Dayu Electronics' ultrasonic sensor employs externally mounted non-contact measurement. The sensor is installed directly on the outer wall of the oil conservator without compromising its sealing structure, completely eliminating the risk of oil leakage caused by installation.
2. No Outage Installation: The entire installation and commissioning process requires no main transformer shutdown, maximizing the continuous power supply of the overseas substation and achieving true "live-line operation."
3. High Accuracy and Stability: The sensor incorporates an advanced temperature compensation algorithm, effectively overcoming measurement errors caused by ambient temperature variations, ensuring accurate and reliable oil level data output under various complex climatic conditions.

Networked Remote Transmission: Building an Intelligent Remote Monitoring System
To achieve unified management of multiple main transformers within the station, this project fully leverages the strong compatibility of the RS485 Modbus-RTU communication protocol.
By integrating the oil level and oil temperature data of all 6 main transformers into the acquisition bus, a station-wide remote data transmission network was successfully established. Maintenance personnel can now monitor the real-time oil level dynamics of all main transformers directly from the central control room, completely replacing the traditional "climbing towers and reading dials" method. The system supports automatic alarm functions: once oil leakage or abnormal oil levels occur, alarms are triggered immediately, truly achieving the transition from "reactive repair" to "proactive prevention."
