During algae bloom season, once the trash rack becomes clogged, it can lead to insufficient flow at best, or structural failure of the rack at worst. In the daily operation of water conservancy hubs and wastewater treatment plants, clogging of trash racks by floating debris such as algae is a common pain point. This not only obstructs water flow and increases energy consumption, but in severe cases can also compromise the safe operation of the entire process.

How to automatically assess the degree of clogging and issue timely alerts? Dayu Electronics addresses this issue by offering two automated monitoring solutions based on different principles, helping you transition from "reactive maintenance" to "proactive warning."

Solution 1: Split-type Ultrasonic Differential Level Meter (Recommended)
Utilizing the propagation characteristics of ultrasound in air, level probes are installed upstream and downstream of the trash rack. The system calculates the water level difference (Δh) between the front and back of the rack in real time to determine the degree of clogging. During initial operation, the system establishes a baseline differential pressure; as aquatic plants gradually attach and reduce the flow area, the differential pressure rises accordingly. Once the preset threshold is exceeded, the system immediately triggers a relay output, activating an audible and visual alarm or starting the cleaning machine, achieving fully automated closed-loop control.

Solution 2: Doppler Flow Velocity Meter Assisted Monitoring
Given that algae tend to float predominantly in the middle and upper layers, a Doppler flow velocity meter can be installed in the middle-lower water layers several meters downstream of the trash rack. Due to the continuity of water flow, when the lower-layer flow velocity shows an abnormal decrease under constant pump station power, it can be inferred that upstream clogging exists. This solution is particularly suitable for wide channels or high-flow scenarios where level meters are inconvenient to install.
