What Factors Affect the Measurement Accuracy of Ultrasonic Depth Sounders?
① Variations in the speed of sound in water; the speed of sound varies depending on the turbidity of the water.
② Changes in water temperature; the speed of sound in water differs at different temperatures. When the temperature is consistent throughout the entire water body, proper temperature compensation can correct a portion of the measurement error caused by temperature variations.
③ The surface of the object being measured; because ultrasonic waves are emitted at a certain angle, and the surface of underwater objects (such as riverbeds, silt, rocks, sunken ships, etc.) is not flat, the accuracy of the depth sounder cannot be improved. The depth sounder can only measure the time of transmission and reception, but cannot determine whether the signal has hit a flat surface.
