Dayu Electronics Handheld Ultrasonic Depth Sounder Application Case for Water Level Measurement in Bridge Cofferdam Tubes
In deep-water foundation construction within steel pipe pile cofferdams, ensuring the safety of the cofferdam structure is the foremost prerequisite for project progress. During construction, the water level inside the tubes is typically pumped down to the design elevation of -4.3 meters, after which the water level inside the tubes and the changes in the tube bottom elevation are monitored daily.

Throughout the entire cofferdam construction period, the difference between the water level inside the tubes and the external river water level (i.e., the "hydraulic head difference") must be closely monitored at all times. If the hydraulic head difference becomes too large, the severe imbalance between internal and external pressure can easily lead to structural deformation of the cofferdam, joint leakage, and in severe cases, catastrophic safety accidents such as piping. Therefore, accurate and real-time water level data is the core basis for guiding on-site construction and ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.

Portable Ultrasonic Handheld Depth Sounder: A Flexible and Efficient Mobile Measurement Solution
Given the complex on-site environment and the dispersed monitoring points of the cofferdam, we adopted a portable ultrasonic depth sounder to achieve highly mobile measurement operations. The greatest advantage of this equipment lies in its high level of integration and convenience:

Self-powering and real-time display: The portable handheld tester not only serves as a data terminal but also directly provides stable self-powering to the underwater sensor. The measured water depth data is transmitted in real-time via cable and is clearly and intuitively displayed on the screen of the handheld terminal, allowing workers to achieve "what you see is what you get" on site without having to travel back and forth.
Flexible battery life and voltage support: The equipment possesses excellent field operation capabilities. A single charge can sustain continuous operation for 3 to 4 hours, perfectly covering routine inspection needs. Additionally, the system supports a wide voltage adjustment range from 12V to 24V, allowing flexible adaptation to different on-site power supply conditions.

Diversified data integration: In addition to local real-time viewing on the handheld terminal, the depth sounder also supports wired connection to the on-site PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) system. This means that water level data can be seamlessly integrated into the overall automated monitoring network of the construction site, enabling remote centralized management and automatic over-limit alarms.
This measurement method eliminates the drawbacks of traditional fixed monitoring equipment, which often involves complex wiring, high costs, and insufficient flexibility. It requires no complex installation procedures—operators can simply pick up the device and begin work at any time. With an extremely streamlined process and minimal barriers, it builds a solid and reliable data defense line for bridge cofferdam construction.
