Dayu Electronics: Can the Ultrasonic Level Meter Still Be Used When There Is Floating Debris on the Water Surface?
In sewage treatment, river monitoring, or level measurement in various open channels, we often encounter a challenging working condition: a large amount of floating debris such as leaves, plastic bags, or other suspended solids on the water surface. Many users may worry: "In this case, can your ultrasonic level meter still measure accurately?"

Regarding this issue, there is no need to worry. As long as the floating objects are solid debris rather than thick foam, the Dayu Electronics ultrasonic level meter can handle the measurement task.
As long as it is not foam, it can be used
First, let's make it clear: if the floating objects on the water surface are not a thick foam layer but some solid floating matter (such as garbage, duckweed, or debris carried by oil stains), the ultrasonic level meter can be used normally.

Why? Because when the water level rises, the garbage also rises; when the water level falls, the garbage also falls. The ultrasonic probe emits sound waves that encounter the combined surface of "garbage + water," and the echo signal remains present. In other words, garbage does not "fool" the level meter; it only slightly raises the measurement reference.
If the floating matter is foam (such as detergent foam or chemical foam), the use of an ultrasonic level meter is not recommended — foam absorbs a significant amount of sound wave energy, causing signal attenuation or even loss, leading to measurement failure. In such cases, a radar level meter or contact-type measurement solution can be considered.

Of course, we need to point out rigorously that due to the presence of floating debris (such as wrinkled plastic bags or interlaced branches), the water surface is no longer an absolutely flat mirror but becomes uneven. This can cause slight shifts in the sound wave reflection points. Therefore, compared to a clean water surface, the actual measurement accuracy may have an additional error of a few centimeters.
