Dayu Electronics Ultrasonic Level Meter Precision Measurement Solution in Bentonite Mud Mixing Tanks
In projects such as trenchless construction, bored piles, and shield tunneling, bentonite mud is widely used for wall protection, slag carrying, and drill tool cooling. The mixed mud needs real-time level monitoring to ensure sufficient mud volume and stable performance. However, during mixing, obvious vortices form in the tank, causing severe liquid surface fluctuations and even depressions, which challenges conventional ultrasonic level measurement.

To address this condition, Dayu Electronics offers a proven solution: install a large-diameter pipe vertically from top to bottom inside the tank (commonly called a 'stilling tube' or 'waveguide tube'), and mount an ultrasonic level meter inside the tube to measure the mud level within it.

Technical Advantages of the Waveguide Tube Installation Solution
First, this large-diameter tube running from top to bottom acts like a 'quiet chamber' built on a turbulent water surface. The influence of external intense agitation on the water inside the tube is greatly weakened, keeping the liquid surface relatively calm. The ultrasonic probe only transmits and receives signals within the tube, fundamentally eliminating measurement interference caused by vortex edges and false reflections.

Second, bentonite mud has strong adhesion. The stilling tube not only protects the probe from direct impact by large solids, but its relatively enclosed environment also greatly reduces mud splashes from directly splashing onto the probe surface, thereby avoiding measurement failure due to probe contamination. Within the confined stilling tube, the sound wave propagation path is more defined and energy is more concentrated, helping the level meter to firmly lock onto the true liquid surface echo and achieve more stable long-distance measurement.

Installation and Commissioning Recommendations
Waveguide Tube Selection: It is recommended that the inner diameter of the waveguide tube be no less than 150mm, with a smooth inner wall and no welds to avoid false echoes; the bottom of the tube should be perforated or connected to the tank bottom to ensure consistent liquid levels inside and outside the tube.
Probe Installation: The ultrasonic probe should be mounted centered at the top of the waveguide tube, with a certain distance (typically ≥200mm) between the probe surface and the tube opening to avoid dead zone effects.

Parameter Settings: Enable the 'tubular installation' mode in the instrument and appropriately adjust gain and filtering parameters to optimize echo recognition.
By installing a waveguide tube in the mixing tank and using it with the Dayu Electronics ultrasonic level meter, issues such as liquid surface disturbance and foam interference during bentonite mud mixing can be effectively overcome, achieving high-precision and high-reliability level monitoring. This solution has been successfully applied in multiple mud treatment systems, providing customers with stable and intelligent level management support.
