How to Detect Blisters in Plywood? Dayu Electronics Offers a Reliable Inspection Solution
During plywood production, especially with relatively porous woods like poplar, surface "blisters" or "bubbles" are a common quality issue. This not only affects the appearance of the board but can also weaken its structural strength. Recently, we received an inquiry from a customer who wanted to use sensor technology to accurately inspect thin boards with dimensions of 930mm×930mm (after edge trimming) and thicknesses of only 2mm to 5mm, with the requirement to detect blisters approximately 10cm in diameter.

To be honest, finding blisters on such thin boards is indeed delicate work. But for us, this falls well within the "comfort zone" of our sensors. We recommended our wood board blister detection sensor, which features high sensitivity and stability, making it especially suitable for detecting micro-deformations on thin board surfaces.

The installation layout was also carefully calculated. With sensors arranged at a center-to-center spacing of 67mm, a 1100mm-wide board can be fully covered by exactly 16 pairs of sensors. This ensures no blister areas are missed while avoiding over-configuration, offering excellent cost-effectiveness.
Although theoretical calculations provide a foundation, Dayu Electronics places greater trust in real-world data. Given the customer's board thickness range (2mm to 5mm) and the specific characteristics of poplar wood, directly applying generic parameters could lead to false readings.

To ensure a foolproof solution, we requested the customer's assistance in providing two types of key sample boards: one set of "defective boards" containing blisters, and another set of flawless "standard boards." The sample size does not need to be large—200mm×200mm is sufficient. Upon receiving the samples, we will conduct a series of targeted tests, focusing on whether the sensor can reliably detect the 10cm blisters while avoiding false alarms caused by natural thickness variations in the board. Only through these real-world measurements can we deliver a dependable solution to the customer.
