The ultrasonic signals penetrate the carbon steel pipe wall and propagate through the internal media—when there is water in the pipe, the ultrasonic signal travels smoothly through the water medium, and the receiving end picks up a strong transmitted signal; when the pipe is empty, the acoustic signal is attenuated by the gas inside the pipe, causing the receiving end signal to drop significantly or disappear altogether. By analyzing the strength of the received signal in real time, the sensor can accurately determine whether media is present inside the pipe.

In practical applications, users need to detect the presence of water inside DN100 and DN150 carbon steel pipes, requiring the product to be explosion-proof and to have explosion-proof certification.
