Mountains and Seas Apart, Dreams Within Reach: New "Teaching Aids" Arrive at This Mountain Village Primary School's Marine Museum

On May 2, 2026, Shangguan Mingyu, Chairman of Fuzhou Dayu Electronics Technology Co., Ltd., and his delegation visited Zhuxi Primary School in Hetian Town, Changting County, Longyan City, to donate a batch of professional instruments, equipment, and teaching/office desks and chairs to the school's marine science museum, demonstrating practical support for science education in rural schools.

A Marine Museum Hidden in a Mountain Village School

Changting County is located in the mountainous region of western Fujian, surrounded by layered peaks and ridges, with the nearest coastline hundreds of kilometers away.

Zhuxi Primary School is a rural school founded in the 1950s. Over the decades, generations of children have walked out of these mountains from this school. Yet, right in the embrace of these mountains, the school has built a distinctive marine science museum. The museum displays specimens ranging from sponges to various marine fish species, with illustrated panels explaining the mysteries of marine life.

The origin of this marine museum is closely tied to a marine scientist who came from Changting — Yu Xingguang, former director of the Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources.

Yu Xingguang is a native of Hetian Town, Changting County. Despite decades of dedication to marine scientific research, he has always maintained a deep connection to his hometown. After retirement, driven by a passion to give back to his roots and a concern for children's science education, he made multiple trips between Xiamen and Changting, actively facilitated and promoted the project, and ultimately the Xiamen Institute of Aquatic and Terrestrial Biology and other organizations jointly funded the construction of this marine life science museum. The museum's collection of over 100 marine biological specimens across more than 90 species also came primarily from his donations.

A marine scientist who once left his hometown, after retirement, "brought" the sea back to his hometown. For many children who have never seen the ocean, this museum is their first window to understanding the sea.

A Window Opened, But a "Key" Was Still Missing

Although this marine museum serves as a window for children to learn about the ocean, due to budget constraints, the museum has long lacked interactive equipment that allows students to engage hands-on. Teaching has largely remained at the level of "viewing specimens, listening to explanations." The school hoped to introduce some demonstrative, operable instruments to truly bring science lessons to life.

Upon learning of this need, Fuzhou Dayu Electronics proactively reached out to the school and decided to donate a batch of professional equipment and teaching/office desks and chairs.

On May 2, Chairman Shangguan Mingyu and his team arrived at Zhuxi Primary School with the donated items, completing this heartwarming handover across mountains and seas.

Professional Equipment Hits the Classroom, Science Comes to Life

After the donation ceremony, Chairman Shangguan Mingyu and his delegation toured the marine science museum.

The batch of professional instruments donated this time, originally used primarily in hydrological monitoring and industrial distance measurement, transformed into vivid teaching aids in the museum:

? Ultrasonic level gauge — simulates water level changes in a water tank, intuitively demonstrating the principle of acoustic distance measurement

? Handheld depth sounder — allows students to operate it themselves, experiencing the technological charm of water depth detection

Though the Sea Is Far, Science Is Near

Chairman Shangguan Mingyu stated that Dayu Electronics has always believed technology should serve not only industry but also nurture education. This is also an important manifestation of the company giving back to society and fulfilling its responsibilities.

"Children in mountain areas are no less curious about the ocean than those in coastal areas. We hope that through these devices, abstract principles can be turned into visible experiments, so they know — though the sea is far, science is near. Perhaps a single hands-on experience today could be the starting point of a child's ocean dream."

Qiu Youzhao, principal of Zhuxi Primary School, expressed sincere gratitude for this donation. He noted that from Director Yu Xingguang's initial donation of the marine science museum to Dayu Electronics' delivery of interactive teaching equipment, this care that spans mountains and seas continues to be passed on.

"This batch of equipment fills the gap of interactive teaching in the museum, allowing children to move from 'seeing' to 'doing' — they can truly operate and experience hands-on, something that textbooks and specimens alone cannot provide."
