Dayu Electronic Ultrasonic Sludge Level Meter Enables Precise Monitoring of Sediment Settling Height in Filter Tanks
In water treatment processes, the sediment settling height in filter tanks is a key parameter affecting operational efficiency and effluent water quality. Accurately and real-time measuring the sludge accumulation interface is of great significance for controlling the sludge discharge cycle and preventing excessive sludge accumulation. Recently, in response to a customer's specific requirement for measuring sediment settling height in a filter tank, our company provided a highly reliable split-type ultrasonic sludge level meter solution, which has been preliminarily verified as feasible.

The customer's filter tank is 1 meter wide with a tank height of 1.2 meters, and the water level is normally maintained between 1.0 and 1.5 meters during operation. The sludge accumulation height in the tank can reach 0.4 meters, and the sensor needs to be made of stainless steel to suit the on-site conditions. Facing the narrow tank space and clear measurement requirements, conventional level or sludge level meters often fail to be directly applied due to blind zones, installation space, or material issues.

After in-depth analysis, our technical team recommended a split-type ultrasonic sludge level meter solution for the customer. This solution separates the electronic unit from the ultrasonic sensor, which not only facilitates on-site installation and commissioning but also effectively avoids the potential impact of the narrow tank on electronic components. For sensor selection, we provided two approaches: one is to use the DYW-50/200-NB probe, which has a wide application range but a relatively larger blind zone; the other is to recommend the customized DYW-300-50B probe based on the customer's preference for stainless steel material and measurement accuracy, featuring a full stainless steel housing with strong corrosion resistance and a blind zone of 0.4 meters.

Given the coexistence of a 0.4-meter blind zone and a 0.4-meter sludge accumulation height, special attention needs to be paid to the selection of installation position. By optimizing the installation depth of the probe below the water surface and fully utilizing ultrasonic signal processing algorithms, the 0.4-meter blind zone can be made to avoid the key measurement area of the sludge accumulation interface. Meanwhile, the split structure allows the electronic unit to be installed on the top of the tank or in a nearby control box, while the sensor is securely placed at a predetermined position in the tank. The entire system can stably capture the sludge-water interface echoes within the water level range of 1 meter to 1.5 meters.

According to preliminary calculations, this solution can achieve continuous, non-contact measurement of sediment settling height in a 1-meter-wide filter tank, with timely data response and effectively avoiding the drawbacks of traditional contact-type instruments, such as tangling and corrosion. In the future, our company will also cooperate with the customer for on-site installation and commissioning to ensure the measurement effect meets expectations.
