Mud Level Monitoring in Sludge Sedimentation Tanks at a Hangzhou Plant: Application Practice of Ultrasonic Sludge Level Meter
On August 16, 2025, a project for mud level monitoring in sludge sedimentation tanks was carried out in an orderly manner at a plant in Hangzhou. The project focused on sludge sedimentation tanks equipped with stirring devices within the plant, aiming to accurately grasp the mud level conditions with advanced equipment and improve sludge treatment efficiency.

During the operation of the sedimentation tank, after sediment and a small amount of small stones enter the water tank, the stirring device starts to mix them thoroughly. When stirring stops, the sediment and small stones gradually settle to the bottom of the tank. At this point, the ultrasonic sludge level meter plays a key role: its probe is lowered to a determined position below the water surface, measuring and displaying the specific thickness of the settled sediment and small stones in real time. By checking the data on the indicator head, staff can promptly arrange subsequent work, such as removing the upper water, clearing the bottom sediment, and separately stacking the upper mud and the lower small stones, because the small stones settle first and the sediment covers them afterwards.

There must be no obstructions between the probe's emission angle and the sediment surface; if the stirring blades are still above the sediment, measurement must be performed while avoiding the blades. At the same time, ensure that the probe is positioned below the lowest water level to guarantee the accuracy and stability of the measurement data.
