Metal Tank Level Measurement Inaccurate? Dayu Electronics Multi-Frequency Transducer Comparison Test Helps
The customer had a requirement to measure the liquid level inside a metal tank. The specific conditions are as follows: the metal tank may be made of steel plate or aluminum, with steel plate thickness of 3-5 cm. The tank contains oil residue and remaining oil, and the liquid level height ranges from 20-50 cm. The customer initially proposed using a separate transmit/receive configuration, but this method is more suitable for level switches rather than being an ideal choice for measuring specific liquid level height.

After in-depth communication with the customer, we recommended a single Dayu Electronics transducer mounted on the bottom of the tank, using the pulse-echo method to measure liquid level height. This approach captures level information more accurately and avoids the limitations of the separate transmit/receive method for level height measurement.
However, we faced a challenge: we had not yet conducted experiments on penetrating a 25 mm thick steel plate for level measurement, and lacked experience with the actual performance of different frequency transducers under such working conditions. Therefore, we suggested the customer purchase several transducers of different frequencies for testing. In addition to the 40 kHz, 20 kHz, and 125 kHz transducers originally requested by the customer, we also recommended the 200K and 1M models to be tested together, taking into account factors such as liquid level height and blind zone. Through comparative testing of multiple frequency transducers, we hope to identify the most suitable solution for measuring the liquid level in this metal tank, thereby obtaining accurate and stable level height data to meet the customer's actual application requirements.
