Project Report on Liquid Level Monitoring for a Storage Tank at a Food Factory in Chengdu
I. Project Background
Time: September 30, 2024
Location: A factory in Chengdu
This project aims to provide a liquid level monitoring solution for the storage tank at a food factory in Chengdu, ensuring effective control of water inflow and outflow, and providing early warning of abnormal water levels to safeguard normal operations and production safety.
II. Project Requirements
Real-time liquid level monitoring of the storage tank to ensure data accuracy and timeliness.
Output 4~20mA signal to the PLC control system for subsequent logic control and alarm processing.
The PLC is equipped with high/low level alarm contact switches to control the start/stop of water pumps in response to abnormal water levels.
Remind relevant factory staff to respond to and handle alarm information promptly to ensure production safety.

III. Product Selection and Installation
Based on on-site inspection and the owner's requirements, this project selected the integrated ultrasonic level meter manufactured by Fuzhou Dayu Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. This product has the following features:
High-precision measurement ensures accuracy of liquid level data.
- Non-contact measurement, avoiding direct contact with the medium, suitable for corrosive or viscous media.
4~20mA standard signal output for easy integration with PLC and other control systems.
Easy to install and maintain, reducing operational and maintenance costs.
During installation, we took the following measures to ensure measurement accuracy and stability:
- Open a hole on the top of the tank, weld a guide pipe, and connect the sensor with a flange to ensure stable and accurate sensor installation position.
For closed storage tanks, install the sensor on the roof as close to the center of the tank as possible to reduce measurement errors.
Clean the inner wall of the guide pipe to ensure it is smooth and unobstructed, avoiding reflection errors in ultrasonic measurement.

IV. System Functions and Implementation
Real-time liquid level monitoring: The integrated ultrasonic level meter collects liquid level data in real time and outputs a 4~20mA signal to the PLC control system.
High/low level alarm: The PLC is equipped with high/low level alarm contact switches, which output alarms based on preset liquid level thresholds. When the liquid level exceeds or falls below the set value, the PLC triggers an alarm signal to control the start/stop of the water pump.
Data recording and analysis: The PLC control system can record liquid level data, analyze and process it, providing data support for subsequent operations and management.
Personnel reminder and response: When the PLC triggers an alarm signal, the system can alert relevant factory staff via audible/visual alarms, SMS notifications, etc., ensuring timely response and handling of alarm information.

V. Project Summary
This project successfully provided a liquid level monitoring solution for a food factory's storage tank in Chengdu, achieving functions such as real-time liquid level monitoring, high/low level alarms, data recording and analysis, and personnel reminders and responses.
