Single-Beam Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) Exhibited at the 28th China International Measurement
From September 26 to September 29, 2017, the China International Measurement Control and Instrumentation Exhibition was grandly held in Shanghai.
Fuzhou Dayu Electronics' Ultrasonic Doppler Flowmeter, Single-Beam Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), and ultrasonic transducers for anemometers and wind direction sensors were fully showcased at the event. The company's engineers, Mr. Liu, Mr. Shen, Mr. Zhong, and Mr. Pan, were present throughout the exhibition to provide guidance, product demonstrations, and promotional support.

Based on the ultrasonic Doppler effect, the flow velocity is measured by emitting an ultrasonic pulse into the water and receiving the reflected echo signals from suspended particles and bubbles. The frequency shift of the echo signals is used to calculate velocity changes, and the time sequence of the echoes allows for determining the velocity profile at different water layers. Additionally, a pressure sensor measures water level, and a temperature sensor measures water temperature.
This Single-Beam Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler is typically installed on the bottom, allowing remote measurement of flow velocities at various depths by transmitting ultrasonic pulses. It can also output the date and time of measurement (year, month, day, hour, minute, second), roll angle, pitch angle, and temperature, facilitating corrections to obtain accurate velocity data.
The housing is made of POM plastic (polyacetal, a crystalline thermoplastic), which has a distinct melting point of 165–175°C and properties closest to metal, often referred to as "plastic steel." It features a deep-sea pressure-resistant design that ensures effective waterproof sealing.

Principle of the Single-Beam Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler: When the ultrasonic source and the observer move relative to each other, the frequency received by the observer differs from the source frequency. Therefore, small particles and bubbles moving with the water relative to the ultrasonic transducer cause a change in the received frequency, which increases with the velocity of the suspended motion. This Doppler shift is used to calculate the water flow velocity.
It is primarily used in irrigation open channels, municipal sewage pipelines, hydrological basins, and other settings, especially suitable for water depths from over 0.5 meters to several meters. In regular pipes and channels, the depth is measured by the pressure sensor on the current profiler, and the velocities at various layers are measured by the ultrasonic sensor; the flow rate can then be conveniently calculated using back-end software.
