Dayu Technical Team Measures ADCP Layered Flow Velocity in Minqing River Channel
In 37°C high temperatures, the technical team of Fuzhou Dayu Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. tested the newly developed ADCP in the river channel of Minqing. The biggest advantage of ADCP is that it can divide the river water into many layers and measure the flow velocity of each layer.
This time, the Minqing river channel was chosen because of its fast flow, relatively deep water, and straight waterway both upstream and downstream. The ADCP testing environment requires a minimum water depth of 1 meter.

The measurement site was in the field with no ready-made fixed brackets available, so the technical team colleagues held the metal rod by hand and lowered the ADCP to the bottom of the river.

After a full day of testing, the following design functionalities were achieved.
1. Minimum layer thickness: 12.5 cm per layer.
2. Minimum measurement blind zone: 30 cm.
3. Both forward and reverse flow velocities can be measured.
Some features still require improvement:
1. The flow velocity measured by ADCP has an error of 3–5% compared to the actual flow velocity.
2. The flow velocity data at the surface layer is erratic and cannot be correctly identified.
The technical team colleagues will next modify the circuit and software to resolve the identified issues. After returning from Minqing, several colleagues had their arms sunburned dark. Here, we give them a thumbs up for their meticulous work ethic and hardworking spirit!
