What Is the Impact of Installing a 600 mm Pipe Below the Ultrasonic Level Meter?

For the dust removal process here, three integrated ultrasonic level meters from Fuzhou Dayu Electronics Co., Ltd. were used. After water intake, the problem occurred: the water level fluctuated. It fluctuated both when the water level was high and when it was low.
On site, we saw the integrated ultrasonic level meters installed on the tanks.
The installation of the first unit was as follows: the water inside the tank boils, and the height of the connecting pipe from the flange to the tank top is 600 mm.
The maximum water level inside the tank reaches the top of the tank.

The installation of the second unit was as follows: the water inside the tank does not boil, but there is a large amount of hot vapor; hot vapor can be seen continuously emerging from the exhaust pipe outlet. The height of the connecting pipe from the flange (where the ultrasonic level meter is installed) to the tank top is 600 mm.
The maximum water level inside the tank is only 50 mm below the tank top.

The installation of the third unit was as follows: the height of the connecting pipe from the flange (where the ultrasonic level meter is installed) to the tank top is 300 mm.
The water inside the tank has hot vapor, and the maximum water level is only 100 mm below the tank top.

All three ultrasonic level meters on site were corrosion-resistant models with extended transducers.

For units 1 and 2, because the connecting pipe was too high, the transducer was recessed inside the pipe. There were strong reflection signals from inside the pipe, as well as reflection signals from the water surface, causing the water level data to fluctuate continuously. Since the maximum water level on site reached the tank top, and the blind zone of the ultrasonic level meter is 0.30–0.40 m, the overall installation height could not be reduced.
So how to solve this problem?
The solution is to use a horn-shaped installation to change the echo signal inside the connecting pipe. This way, the influence of the previous circular pipe between the transducer and the water surface is eliminated, allowing normal water surface echoes to be measured, and there will also be no strong echoes inside the horn.
